Young Beavers Lose Tough Road Game

On February 7th, the Blackburn College Women's Basketball team travelled to Greenville University to take on the Panthers in a conference clash.  After coming short in a close one on Monday Night against St. Mary-of-the-Woods, the Beavers looked to bounce back against the Panthers.  The Panthers outpaced the Beavers as Greenville won by a final score of  90-47.

The quick paced Panthers got off to a hot start against Blackburn as they outscored 27-13 in the first quarter.  The drive of the Beavers however was not gone and the young team continued to fight.  The Panthers kept up the relentless pressure and Blackburn found themselves down 55-23 at halftime.  Blackburn was able to hold the Panthers to only 14 third quarter points, while scoring eleven of their own.  To start the fourth, the Panthers made two quick baskets and never looked back as the won by a final of 90-47.

Leading the way for the Beavers was Maria Cline,(Sophomore) who led the team in points with eleven and rebounds with seven.  Kate Smith, (Freshmen), led the team in assists with 2.

Looking ahead for the Beavers they will continue conference play with a home game at Blackburn College, on Saturday February 10th, against Spalding University with the tip off time set for 1 pm.
