Beavers lose to Gorloks

On Wednesday, February 14th, the Blackburn College Women's basketball team played their final home game of the 2017-18 season against the Gorloks of Webster University.  With both teams getting off to slow starts, it was Webster University who prevailed in the end winning by a final score of 75-45 over the Beavers.

Neither team seemed to be able to find a groove early as nearly three minutes ticked off the clock in the first quarter before the Gorloks were able to score the first eleven points of the game on the Beavers.  Webster led by as much as 14 in the first quarter but the Beavers brought it back to ten point deficit just before the end of the quarter.  In the second quarter, the Gorloks went on a roll outscoring the Beavers 23-8 in the second quarter.  After halftime, the Beavers looked to come out in the third quarter with some edge.  And boy did they as Blackburn outscored the Gorloks 20-18 in the third.  However, in the fourth the Gorloks turned it on and never looked back as Webster won by a final score of 75-45.

Leading the way for the Beavers was Kate Smith with 11 points.  Also scoring in double figures for Blackburn was Jenna Dudra who added ten points.  Gariel Pierce led the team in rebounding with 11 rebounds and Smith led the team in assists with five assists.

The Beavers final game of the 2017-18 season will take place on Saturday, February 17th, as they travel on the road to Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.  Tip off is set for 1 pm.
