Blackburn Women's Basketball team falls short to Greenville University

            Greenville University Women's basketball team (14-3, 9-0 SLIAC) defeated the Blackburn Women's basketball team (4-15, 1-10 SLIAC) 69-53. On Saturday January 26th.

 

            The first quarter was a tightly contested as the largest lead of the quarter was only five points held by Greenville. There were six lead changes and five ties throughout the quarter. Both teams shot 46.2 from the floor. Jenna Dudra (Pana, Illinois / Pana), and Lexi Black (Belleview, Missouri / Valley R-VI) lead the Beavers with 4 points each. Blackburn was down 17-12 with 1:13 in the quarter and, they finished the quarter strong by cutting the advantage to one point.

            As for the second quarter, the score was tied 18-18, until the Lady panthers went on a 12-0 run to extend their lead 30-18. The Beavers were held to just eight points in the quarter. Dudra had it going at both ends with four points and three steals. After trailing 30-18 Blackburn college went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to just six. The halftime score was 33-24 Greenville.

The third quarter was "The Savannah Kruse Show" (Lake St. Louis, Missouri / Liberty). The sophomore forward was on fire shooting 4 of 6 from the field and 3-3 from three-point land. She had 13 of the Beavers 15 points in the quarter. Greenville University had a 40-27 lead with 6:49 in the quarter.  Blackburn kept fighting and they cut the lead to just six points with 4:11 left to go in the period 40-34. Each team scored 15 points in the quarter and the lead was still nine for the Lady Panthers 48-39.

In the 4th quarter Greenville out scored the Beavers 21-14. Greenville shot 75% from three and 53% from the floor, compared to Blackburn shooting 33% from the floor and 33% from three. Black had seven of her eleven points in the quarter. The conference leaders were just too much for Blackburn to handle. As Greenville College wins 69-53.

 

Blackburn was led by Kruse's 19 points and four rebounds, Dudra had twelve points, six steals, four block shots, Black had eleven points.
