Lincoln Christian Defeats Blackburn Women's Basketball

The Blackburn College Women's Basketball team hosted the Red Lions of Lincoln Christian University, in a non-conference game on December 5th, 2018, at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois. The Beavers lost the game, being out-scored by the Red Devils 68-53.

 

Early in the game it was a back and forth battle between the two teams, both defensively and offensively. The Red Devils and Beavers each had multiple players with ten or more points. Lucy Waid led the Red Devils in points, scoring 20. Waid was 9-13 on field goals, the highest percentage on her team. Kenzie Schlipf followed close behind, going 6-10 on field goals, and scoring 15 points. Nine of these 15 points were scored as a result of three-point shots from Schlipf. Defensively, the Red Devils were led by Breeanna Brackney and Mikayla Smith, who each had multiple steals. Brackney had eight defensive rebounds, as well as two steals, while Smith had three steals.

 

The Beavers were led offensively by Jenna Dudra and Savannah Kruse, who each scored double digit points. Dudra had ten points, and went 1-3 from the three-point line. Kruse was 5-10 on field goals, and 2-2 from the three-point line, leading the team with 13 points. Madison Duncan followed close behind with nine total points, going 4-9 on field goals. Defensively, the Beavers played a solid game. Gariel Pierce led the Beavers in rebounds with a total of eleven. Jenna Dudra had six rebounds.

 

At the end of the 1st quarter, the score was 12-9, with Lincoln Christian on top. The Beavers fought back early in the 2nd quarter, taking the lead in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter. The Red Devils began to extend their lead by halftime, when the score was 35-25. Coming out of halftime, the Red LIons went on a 10 point run, making the score 49-31. They remained in the lead for the rest of the game. 

 

As a result of this game, the Lincoln Christian Red Lions move to an overall record of 3-6, while the Beavers move to an overall record of 2-5. The Beavers will play their next game against Greenville University, at Greenville. This game will take place on Monday, December 10th, 2018, in Greenville, Illinois.
