Greenville Rises Above as Blackburn Faces Defeat

The Blackburn women's basketball team fell to Greenville 71-33 on Monday night at the H.J. Long Gymnasium.

The Panthers took an early 11-0 lead in the first quarter. The Beavers didn’t score their first point until the final minute of the quarter, which the Panthers found themselves up 19-1 in the closing seconds of the period.

Blackburn found themselves digging a deeper hole in the second quarter, trailing 30-7 at the 5:39 mark. Trailing 37-17 at the intermission.

Things were much of the same for the Beavers in the third as they then went into the fourth quarter facing a 63-25 deficit, and ended up falling 71-33 in the final minutes of the game.

Sophomore forward Savannah Kruse (Lake St. Louis, Missouri / Liberty) led the team with ten points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Lexie Black (Belleview, Missouri / Valley R-VI) followed with three points, four assists, and three rebounds. Gariel Pierce (Springfield, Illinois / Southeast) also had an impressive night on the glass with a game-high 14 rebounds

The Beavers will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 15 as they face Eureka at home at 1 p.m.
