Blackburn Women's Basketball falls to Covenant College

The Blackburn Women's Basketball Team was defeated by Covenant College Scots by a 74-54 score in a non-conference matchup on Friday, November 22, 2019 in Carlinville. The Scots outshot the Beavers 41 percent to 34 percent from the floor.  Victorious Covenant college moves to 2-3 and Blackburn falls to 2-2.

 

Koby Margo led all scorers with 16 points for Covenant. Jenna Dudra led the Beavers with 14 of her own.

 

After one quarter the Scots were leading 18-15. Covenant was 18-7 with three minutes left in the quarter when the Beavers went on an 8 to 0 run to close the quarter. The Beavers caused three turnovers in the last few minutes which sparked Blackburn's run.

 

The Scots extended their lead as they outscored the Beavers 19 to 11. Rachel Thomas led the Scots scoring in the second quarter with seven points shooting five of six from the free-throw line.  Kaylee Pedigo led the Beavers with four points shooting two of three from the free-throw line. The halftime score was 37-26 Scots.

 

After each team scored 18 in the third the score was 55-44 going into the fourth.  Covenant went on a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 64-44. Megan Lindzy ended the run with a lay-up to cut the lead to 18.  The Scots controlled the rest of the game and won 74-54.

 

For the game Blackburn shot 21 of 61 from the field for 34 percent. The Scots shot 24 of 58 from the field for 41 percent. Covenant outrebounded the Beavers 42 to 34.

 

The Beavers will look to bounce back as they host Eureka College at 5:30 on Wednesday December 4th for their first conference matchup.
