Women's Basketball Loses to MacMurray

Blackburn Women's Basketball lost a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup to the MacMurray College Highlanders on Wednesday night. MacMurray took the lead late in the game and won by a final score of 81-64.

 

Lexie Black and Callista Francis led Blackburn offensively, each tallying 16 total points. Black was three for ten on field goals, and one for two on 3-pointers. She was also nine for eleven on free throws. Francis was seven for 15 on field goals, and two for four on free throws. Following close behind them was Savannah Kruse, who racked up thirteen total points. Overall, the team was 20-56 on field goals, and three for thirteen on 3-pointers. 

Defensively, Blackburn was led by Maria Cline, who tallied up 11 defensive rebounds. Callista Francis followed close behind her with seven defensive rebounds, along with ten offensive rebounds. Savannah Kruse and Callista Francis each had two steals, resulting in extra points for the Beavers. Despite having a lead in the fourth quarter, the Beavers defensive efforts were not enough to stop MacMurray, as they took the lead late and then won.

 

MacMurray was led by Savanah Moore offensively, as she tallied 17 points with one assist. Alexis Doyle and Abby Stotler followed behind, with each of them scoring 16 points. The strong offensive push from MacMurray towards the end of the game ensured their victory over Blackburn.

MacMurray was led defensively by Abbby Stotler, who racked up six defensive rebounds. She also had a block, as well as two steals. In addition to her defensive efforts, Alaina Vance also contributed, tallying three steals that led to key points for MacMurray. With a strong defensive stand late in the game, MacMurray was able to secure the win.

 

With this game, the Beavers now move to an overall record of 5-16, and 3-12 in the SLIAC. Their next game will be at home, as they will take on the visiting conference rival, Webster. The game will take place on Saturday, February 15th, and will start at 1:00 p.m.
