Monmouth Gives Women's Basketball First Loss

The Blackburn College Women's Basketball Team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Monmouth College Scots by a 79-54 score in non-conference action on Tuesday night in Carlinville.  Monmouth raced out to a 51-17 halftime lead to take the victory and improve to 4-0 on the season.  Blackburn is now 2-1.

Jenna Dudra led all scorers with 24 points for Blackburn.  Freshman Megan Lindzy added ten points for the Beavers.

The visitors led 24-6 after the first quarter that included an 11-0 run over a five minute span in the middle of the quarter.  In the second quarter the Beavers suffered a four minute scoreless stretch where Monmouth pulled away and stretched the lead to 43-11.  The Beavers struggled shooting in the first half as they shot just 17 percent on 5 of 30 shooting.

Monmouth stretched the lead to 69-26 after three quarters before the Beavers played a strong fourth quarter out-scoring Monmouth 28-10 in the final period as Dudra scored eleven fourth quarter points.

For the game, Blackburn was 18 of 57 from the field for 32 percent.  Monmouth was 29 of 70 for 41 percent.  Blackburn continued their trend of good free throw shooting as the Beavers were 13 of 16 from the foul line for 82 percent. 

Monmouth out-rebounded Blackburn 48-35 as the taller Scots took advantage of their height difference.  Blackburn committed 19 turnovers to Monmouth's 15.

The Beavers will look to rebound on Friday night as they host Covenant College in another non-conference tilt.
