Women's Basketball Starts Season 2-0 For First Time Since 1996-97

The Blackburn College Women's Basketball Team defeated Mt. Mary University, 65-54, on Saturday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 1996-97 season.  Blackburn was led by sophomore Lexie Black who scored a career-high 20 points on six of eleven from the field and eight of ten from the foul line.

Savannah Kruse added 15 points to join Black in double figures.  Blackburn was an outstanding 23 of 27 from the foul line for 85 percent.

The Beavers trailed 12-10 after a quarter before out-scoring Mt. Mary 16-6 in the second quarter.  Michaela Higginbotham made a three-pointer at 5:35 of the second quarter that put the Beavers ahead 19-14 and Blackburn led the rest of the way with Mt. Mary closing their deficit to three points once.

Blackburn out-rebounded the Blue Angels 46-43 on the night.

Blackburn will now have ten days until taking on Monmouth College on November 19 in Carlinville.
