A game with lockdown defense from both sides ended in a Blackburn College loss to Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon. The lone goal came in the final minutes of the second half to give the Beavers a heartbreaking defeat.

The back-and-forth game had everyone on the edge of their seat as it seemed the game was destined for overtime. Lakeland's Krystina Cook fired a shot past Blackburn's Nicole Kelly (St. Louis, Mo.) for the game winning goal in the 88th minute. Kelly made six saves in the game.

Both sides had equal opportunites with Lakeland having nine shots and the Beavers eight. One of the nine Lakeland shots just escaped the reach of Kelly and banged off the crossbar. Blackburn's Meghan Sykora (Arnold, Mo.) and Allison Guerra (Elsah, Ill.) each had their own breakaway opportunity at different points in the game but couldn't put it away. Sykora led with team with three shots while Guerra had two.

The Beavers are now 2-3 on the year and are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Rockford University at 2:00 PM.
