Women's Soccer Pair Named Players of the Week

Two Blackburn College Women's Soccer teammates swept the Player of the Week awards for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this week.  Meghan Sykora was the conference's offensive player of the week, while Jourdin McFarland was the defensive player of the week.

Sykora, a sophomore from Arnold, Mo., helped the Beavers pick up their first three wins of the year last week as she recorded four goals and three assists in three games. Sykora started the week with two goals in a win over Rockford. She followed with two more goals and added two assists in a 6-0 win over Mount Mary and closed out the week with an assist on the only goal of the game in a win over Wisconsin-Lutheran.

McFarland, a junior from Carlinville, Ill., was busy in net last week as she tallied three wins including two shutouts. The only goal allowed by McFarland on the week came in a 6-1 win over Rockford, in which she made six saves. McFarland blanked Mount Mary, making two saves, and then threw up another shutout with 11 saves in a win over Wisconsin-Lutheran. On the week McFarland stopped 19 of 20 shots faced, allowing just one goal, while playing in 270 minutes.

Blackburn will try to make it four victories in a row as they host Berea College this Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
