Beavers Win SLIAC Opener

On Saturday afternoon the women's soccer team began their conference season with a road match in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa against Iowa Wesleyan.  Blackburn controlled the match from start to finish maintaining possession and creating many scoring opportunities.  Sophomore Jasmine Tillman opened the scoring in the game's 4th minute after being setup by fellow sophomore Christin Miller.  Sophomore Adriana Darow scored in the 8th minute as freshman Morgan Adams was credited with the assist.  Iowa Wesleyan then cut the lead in half with a goal in the 10th minute of the match.  Junior Jessica Esper responded with a goal in the 14th minute.  Senior Christy Hobbs then setup freshman Maya March in the 24th minute.  Hobbs and March reversed roles in the 25th minute as Hobbs scored.  March finished the scoring in the opening half with an unassisted goal in the 34th minute which put the Beavers ahead 6-1.  Blackburn continued to control the match in the second half.  Hobbs scored her second goal of the match in the 49th minute.  Miller added another goal in the 59th minute.  Blackburn's last goal was scored by junior Meghan Sykora in the 66th minute as freshman Becca Richards earned the assist.  Richards and Esper each played one half in the goal for Blackburn.  The 9-1 victory pushed the team's overall record to 4-6-1.  The team's next match is Saturday October 1st as the team hosts Eureka College at 1pm as part of Homecoming weekend.
