Women's Soccer Claims Final Non-Conference Match

On Wednesday afternoon in Eureka, Illinois,  the women’s soccer team played their last non-conference match of the year against Eureka College earning a 3-1 victory.  Despite multiple opportunities to score in the game’s opening minutes, it was Blackburn who found themselves trailing in the match.  Four minutes into the match a Eureka attacker was awarded a penalty kick which was converted.  The Beavers controlled the first half outshooting their opponent 24-2 and eventually tied the score in the 30th minute as sophomore Adriana Darow scored off a loose ball in front of the goal.  The goal was Darow’s first of the season.  Freshman Makayla Ewing scored the go-ahead goal in the 32nd minute off a feed from Darow. The goal was Ewing’s third on the season.  The halftime score remained 2-1.  The second half of the match mirrored the opening half.  The Beavers outshot Eureka 15-2 but were inconsistent finishing shots on goal.  Junior Jesscia Esper scored the game’s final goal in the 59th minute as she finished a well driven cross from senior midfielder Christy Hobbs.  The goal was Esper’s first of the year.  The assist was Hobbs’ team leading third on the year.  Freshman Maya March earned the victory in goal, her second in three matches started.  The win improved the team’s overall record to 3-6-1.  Blackburn plays their first SLIAC match Saturday afternoon at Iowa Wesleyan.
