Spalding Defeats Blackburn in Early Morning Match

The Blackburn College and Spalding University women's soccer teams were up early this morning playing their postponed match from the day before.  With the match beginning just before 8:00 a.m. with a light shroud of fog ringing the field, the Golden Eagles scored three first half goals en route to a 5-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Beavers.  On Saturday, lightning and the threat of more thunderstorms moved the match to Sunday morning.  The Beavers had a couple early scoring opportunities go by without a goal and after that Spalding took over the match.

Two Golden Eagles goals a minute and twenty seconds apart put Spalding in the driver's seat for the match.  Kendall Brown scored at the 13:40 mark with assists credited to Lauren Locke and Bailey Whitehead.  Then 80 seconds later at 15:00, Meghan Ogden scored with Abby McGimsey assisting. The Golden Eagles made it 3-0 at the 39:08 on an unassisted goal by Kelsie Huffman.  Spalding added two goals in the second half to account for the 5-0 final.

For the match Spalding out-shot Blackburn 38-3.  The Beavers split the goalkeeping duties with Morgan Zobrist in goal in the first half and Anicca Mackay-Slavin in goal the final 45 minutes.  Zobrist had seven saves for Blackburn while Mackay-Slavin had ten saves.

Spalding improves to 5-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SLIAC while Blackburn is now 2-10 and 0-3.
