Beavers Fall Short On Senior Night

Another volleyball season at Blackburn College came to an end on Wednesday evening as the Beavers played host to Westminster College.  The Beavers also said goodbye to senior Brianna Starck, who played in her final collegiate volleyball match.

The opening set showed promise of a good evening for Blackburn.  The Beavers held the lead for nearly the entire set.  But Westminster rallied a comeback as they were down 20-19 to pull away to take set one 25-20.

Blackburn continued to go back and forth with the Blue Jays, but eventually stumbled. Westminster, up 12-10, would go on to score seven straight service points and put the set out of reach for Blackburn. Westminster took set two 25-16.

Looking to end the season on a high note, Blackburn came out attacking early and often in the third set.  The Beavers kept the Blue Jays in check for the majority of the set, eventually establishing a lead 14-10.  Westminster rallied back however and edged out the Beavers in the end 25-20.

Victoria Bowens lead the team with her 16th double-digit game in kills with 12. Starck, who finished up her career as a Beaver had five digs with two serve aces to add to her total of 22 serve aces, 16 kills, and 432 digs including a 31 dig performance against Fontbonne University in 2011.
