Volleyball Loses Heartbreaker

It was the second meeting between the two, as the Blackburn College Volleyball Team hosted the Eureka College Red Devils on Tuesday evening.  And much like the first encounter, this match provided plenty of excitement.  The Beavers came out strong to start the night as the controlled much of the opening set cruising to an easy 25-19 victory.

Blackburn continued to control the tempo as they ran out to an early lead 12-4.  Eureka never stood a chance for any comeback as the Beavers took set two 25-17.

Now facing a possible sweep, the Beavers started off as efficiently as they had all evening.  However the Beavers stumbled towards the end of the set as Eureka came back to take set three 25-20.  Blackburn continued to struggle early on in the fourth set but fought back to tie it up late at 23.  Eureka however put the Beavers away late once again and won 25-23.

The decisive fifth set was a heated battle.  The Beavers took the early lead but it did not last.  Eureka regained control late 14-13 looking to end the night, but the Beavers rallied to tie it up at 14.  However, after a back and forth rally, Eureka pulled away and won the fifth and final set 17-15.

Victoria Bowens had another great game for Blackburn with 19 kills and 7 kills.  Marlee Lindstrom had her fourth 20 plus dig game with 21.

Blackburn now sits with a 1-15 record overall and be on the road this Saturday at MacMurray College playing against host school MacMurray and Robert Morris University-Springfield.
