Volleyball Struggles Despite Promising Start

What appeared to be a hopeful night in the Beaver Dome, quickly turned sour as the Blackburn College Volleyball team was swept by Webster University.  The Beavers came out stagnant in the first set of the evening.  Webster climbed out to a commanding 20-10 lead and appeared to have set one wrapped up.  Led by Patrece McLain, the Beavers rallied to the tune of eight straight service points to crawl back into the game.  Blackburn eventually tied the game at 23, but unfortunately could not go any further and lost the opener 25-23.

The momentum did not carry over into the second set and the Beavers once again found themselves playing from behind the whole set.  Webster went on to an easy 25-15 victory to take a 2-0 lead.  Webster continued their success into the third set jumping to 5-0 lead.  Blackburn fought back to make it as close as 16-13, but Webster took off from there and ran away with the set winning 25-14.

Victoria Bowens had 12 kills for the Beavers while Marlee Lindstrom added 16 digs.

This loss puts the Beavers at 2-17 with their next contest this Friday at home against Central Christian College of the Bible and Spalding University.
