Volleyball Struggles Over Weekend

It was a busy weekend in Bloomington, Ill for the Blackburn College Women’s Volleyball Team where they competed in the Barker Chevrolet Classic hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.   The Beavers struggled, however, and could not pull out a victory in three matches.

In their opening match, Blackburn took on the Foresters of Lake Forest College.  The Beavers were swept by the Foresters, but improved their scores each set 25-18, 25-21, and 26-24.  Victoria Bowens was team leader in kills with eight, while Kristen Buzzard led the team in blocks (2) and digs (11).

Blackburn looked to bounce back against Benedictine University but had no such luck as they were also swept in three straight sets.

In their final match of their weekend, the Beavers tried to salvage the trip against Ohio Northern University.  Unfortunately Blackburn could not scrap a win and were swept again in three straight sets 25-13, 25-14, 25-15.  Victoria Bowens lead the charge at the net with eight kills with Marlee Lindstrom producing 22 digs.

This puts the Beavers at 0-7 with their next contest being the home opener on Saturday the 13th against St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals Iowa Wesleyan and Eureka College.  Match time set at 10:00 am.
