Volleyball Sweeps Way To First Victory

The wait is over.  Blackburn earns their first win of the season in dominating fashion, sweeping the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in three sets.  The Beavers

Blackburn was in total control in the opening set.  After jumping out to a 4-1 lead, they never looked back.  Despite STLCOP's best efforts at a comeback, the Beavers maintained control and took the opening set 25-21.

In the second set, Blackburn found themselves playing from behind.  STLCOP had been in control early on, leading by as much as six.  But down 17-13, Blackburn rallied back to tie the set up at 17.  From that point it went back and forth until the Beavers tied it up again, this time at 22-22.  The Beavers took over from here and took set number two 25-22.

With the possibility of a sweep, Blackburn came out in the third set on fire.  Blackburn established an early lead 4-0, but stumbled after that.  Down 18-15, the Beavers looked to be in trouble.  All would change after a six-straight service point rally, putting the squad up 22-18.  STLCOP would not be able to rebound from the rally, resulting in the Beavers taking home their first win of the season.

Emily Schroeder lead the Beavers in kills with 13.  Right behind her was Alanni Young with 11.  Marlee Lindstrom had an excellent night at libero with 29 digs.

Following their victory, the Beavers will travel to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa this Saturday to battle St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals MacMurray College, and Iowa Wesleyan University.
