Volleyball Loses Close Match To Tough North Central

The Blackburn College Volleyball Team had a tough task this Labor Day weekend.  Coming off of a tournament hosted by Washington University in St. Louis, the Beavers played their home opener against the undefeated North Central College Cardinals.  Blackburn was also hoping to find their first win of the season.

The action was hot from the start as a back and forth affair ensued.  Several lead changes and a late rally by Blackburn, the Beavers lead 23-22. Unfortunately the North Central Cardinals took over and pulled away with set one, winning 25-23.

The second set, however, did not feature the same drama.  North Central got off to a hot start jumping to an 8-1 lead.  Blackburn would not roll over, and put together a late rally that gave them life.  North Central ended the Beaver’s hopes and ran away with set two 25-12.

Down 0-2, Blackburn found the spark from the opening set and started off in control.  The lead changed hands several times including another late rally by the Beavers to take the lead 22-21.  And for the third time of the afternoon, North Central ended any hopes Blackburn had and emerged with the 25-23 victory.

Alanni Young lead the charge up front for Blackburn with eight kills.  Emily Schroeder added in six kills as well.  Libero Marlee Lindstrom chipped in 13 digs.

Blackburn is now 0-6 and will play next this Wednesday at Illinois College. Start time set for 7:00 pm.
