Blackburn Falls to Harris-Stowe

What started out as a night filled with energy and fun quickly took a turn for the worst for the Blackburn Women's volleyball team.

The women arrived early to Harris-Stowe College, so they got prepared and took the floor early to ensure they were stretched and warm once warm-ups officially started. Shortly after finishing warm-ups, problems began for the team.

Freshman Maria Cline was sent to the athletic trainer after discovering she had some pain in her elbow going through her arm. As she in a starter as an outside hitter, she was pulled for the first set to be examined. Coach Hunstein scrambled to get together another line-up, which resulted in placing a few people in positions they don't normally play.

The first set in result was a struggle for the women and they ended up losing. The second set, however, ended up being much better for the women, although they did still lose this set as well, but only by three points that time.

The third set was the set where things truly fell apart for the women. In the middle of the set, freshman Anna Koen went down after attempting to dig up a ball. Anna ended up being seriously injured and had to be pulled immediately, followed by being taken to the hospital right after the game.

With dealing with the injury, Hunstein had to scramble again with figuring out who to put in to take Anna's position as an outside hitter. The women did their best to adapt to the line change, but still ended up falling behind.

The women will be playing next at Greenville College for a tri-match against Webster then Greenville on Saturday, September 10th. Anna Koen will be out with injury until further notice.
