Volleyball Loses Competitive Five Set Match to MacMurray

Beavers Lose a Thrilling Five Set Conference Match

On October 4, The Blackburn College Volleyball Team took on MacMurray College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. In a back and forth competitive match, the Beavers fell short to the Highlanders three sets to two. MacMurray claimed the match by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, and 15-10.

In the first set, the Beavers came out hot and played very well against their conference rival. In the second and third sets the Beavers struggled with consistency and just couldn’t prevent enough mistakes from occurring. Once the fourth set came they gathered themselves and knotted the match at two forcing a deciding set. In the fifth set, the entire Dawes Gymnasium was standing, cheering as the Beavers started fast but were passed up by MacMurray as the Highlanders claimed the final set and the match.

Alanni Young led the Blackburn women on the night with eleven out of the 40 Blackburn kills. Marlee Lindstrom also led the women on the night with 18 digs out of the 48 Blackburn digs.

The Blackburn Beavers are back in action taking on Greenville on Thursday, October 6, at 7 pm. in Carlinville.
