In the second game of the Lon Varnell classic, Blackburn was looking to come out strong and set the tone. However, it was a slow start for both teams. Missed looks throughout the game cost the Beavers and they fell to 0-4 on the year.

A Henry Hicks 3 put the Beavers up 3-2 with 17:19 left in the 1st half but that would prove to be the last lead the Beavers held. 

For the game, the Beavers shot 34.5%. However, their defense held Sewanee to 38.9% on 21-54 shooting which allowed the Beavers to stay in it throughout. Sewanee built a double digit lead with 5:41 to go in the 1st half but Blackburn closed the half on a 10-6 run capped off by a long Jake Maestranzi 3 pointer. 

The second half was more of the same for the Beavers as Jake Lochhead had two 3's that just missed that would have cut into the lead. "Offensively, we never got into a rhythm," said head coach Steve Kollar. "Defensively, we did a good job holding Sewanee to 67 points as that should be enough to win games. However, me must continue to improve and finish out possessions if we want to be the team we know we can be." 

Brody Stone paced Sewanee with 11 points and 10 rebounds as he made his presence felt on the glass on their way to a 67-50 win. Blackburn struggled to box him out which led to multiple second chance opportunities for Sewanee. Henry Hicks was the leading scorer for Blackburn with 15 points. Henry was also named to the All-Tournament team. 

Blackburn returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Galesburg, Illinois to take on Knox College.
