Beavers Handle Business in 83-74 win at Eureka

Thursday’s matchup lived up to its billing, as the Blackburn men's basketball team pulled out an 83-74 victory over Eureka.

Blackburn shot 47.1 percent from the field with ten three-pointers, while Eureka finished with four treys and a 38.6 field goal percentage.

Raushaun Amos (St. Louis, Missouri / Soldan) led the charge for the Beavers, finishing with 20 points off an impressive 8 of 12 shooting from the field including four three-pointers. Amos added three assists and three steals as well.

Jamaya Wyatt (Chicago, Illinois / Uplift) had 18 points off 72.7 percent shooting to go along with seven rebounds.

Chanz Aldridge (Hillside, Illinois / St. Joseph's) joined the pair in double figures with 15 points of his own in his second career start. Aldridge also had four assists and four steals.

Eureka put the first points on the board with a jump shot from Jordan Dehm before the Red Devils saw Blackburn break out on a 16-1 run. The Red Devils failed to stop the on slot, allowing a 34-19 lead to build before taking their first timeout with 6:15 remaining in the first half.

Ahead by 15 at that point, the Beavers saw their lead increase to 20 before the two-minute mark of the first. BC outscored the Red Devils by one the rest of the half to carry a 47-26 lead into the break.

Amos started the second half with a three-pointer for the Beavers, but Eureka fought back fast, answering with a quick 14-6 spurt. 

That theme played more in the half, as the Red Devils worked to bring the Beavers lead back down to single digits with 6:38 left in the period.

Ahead 77-74 with just under two minutes to go, a pair of free throws from senior Karson Hayes (Little Rock, Arkansas / John L McClellan) provided one last momentum swing for the Beavers as the went back up nine, where it stayed the rest of the way.

UP NEXT: Blackburn defends home court this Saturday when they face off against Iowa Wesleyan on Feb. 2 in a 3 p.m. matchup.
