Basketball Loses to Webster

Blackburn Men's Basketball lost a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup to Webster University on Saturday afternoon. Webster was able to pull away in the second half to secure the win by a final score of 80-61.

 

Karson Hayes led Blackburn offensively, scoring 16 points, along with two assists. Javon Stovall and Nigel Ferrel each tallied up eleven of their own points. Ferrel led the team in assists with five. The team was 22-60 on field goals, and seven for 27 on 3-pointers. Key free throws were missed throughout the game that allowed Webster to extend their lead on Blackburn. Despite Hayes's offensive efforts, Webster was able to pull away with the win.

Defensively, David Lopez led Blackburn, racking up seven rebounds. Christian Wagner was close behind him with five. Bryson Kirby also contributed, tallying three steals. Wagner had two steals of his own that led to extra points for Blackburn. The team totaled 35 rebounds and six steals. Blackburn forced 16 turnovers from Webster, but it was not enough to stop Webster's offense from extending their lead and secure the win.

 

Webster was led offensively by Josh Johnson, who tallied up 18 points. Enrique Tankins, as well as Wynne Brown Jr. each had 15 points. Rodson Etienne contributed as well, scoring thirteen of his own. Tankins led the team in assists with four. Johnson was seven for 14 on field goals, and three for six on 3-pointers. Key shots were made by Johnson and Tankins early in the second half, allowing Webster to begin running away with the game. 

Clay Jordan was Webster's defensive leader, as he tallied eleven rebounds. Enrique Tankins was close behind with ten. Wynne Brown Jr. racked up four steals, each of which led to extra points for Webster. The team forced 19 turnovers from Blackburn, with several of these turnovers resulting in points. Etienne Rodson contribtued to the defensive effort, with two steals that each came at crucial moments in the game. Due to Webster's strong defense and high scoring offense, they were able to secure the victory over the Beavers. 

 

With this game, Blackburn moves to an overall record of 11-12, and 10-6 in the SLIAC. Blackburn's next game will be an important match in the playoff race, as they will take on Greenville University at home. The game will take place on Wednesday, February 19th, at 7:30 p.m.
