Blackburn Golf has Strong Showing at IW Fall Classic

In the second event of the year, the Blackburn men's and women's golf team took to the road as they traveled to Ft. Madison, Iowa to take place in the IWU Fall Classic. With decent weather conditions and the hopes of a strong start the Beavers looked to improve from their  previous start earlier in the year. "With the weather being like it was today, and at this course, I expected our guys and ladies to come and compete", said Head Coach Seth Shultz.

The team did just that as the men's team shaved off 19 shots from their previous tournament to shoot a team total of 320. Which places the team in fifth overall in the tournament, of a 65 player field.

Anthony Harper led the men's team with a 74 to take third place overall.

"I got off to a hot start with a birdie on one and played the next three hardest holes on the course at even. That was huge for my confidence moving forward. I got a little sluggish towards the end of the round, but I found a way to get into the clubhouse with a respectable score.  I look forward to the next tournament and getting to compete out on the course with my teammates again." Said Harper.

The next scores for the Beavers was, freshmen, Thomas White with a 81, and Junior Matt Kinsella, and Isaac Garrett rounded out the team score with a pair of 83s.

On the women's side, Baylee Hughes and Sydney Cania competed as individuals in the tournament. Cania led the women with a 97 and Hughes shot a 108.

The Men's team is back in action on Saturday October 6th, at Spencer T. Olin golf club in Alton, IL.  Tee times are set for 1 pm.
