Beavers Defeat Tigers 71-62

The Blackburn Beavers played great team basketball in a win over the visiting Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan. The Beavers led from the first basket and never looked back in a game where the home team dominated in the paint. They held the visitors to just 15 baskets inside the arch as they forced the Tigers to often settle for contested threes outside the arch on 24 of their total 57 attempts. The Tigers would finish 9 for 24 on three point attempts to the Beavers 0 for 8. However, the home team forced the issue in the paint and was able to get to the line 17 times during and the game, making 11 free throws to the five made by Iowa Wesleyan. The Beavers would also make 30 shots inside the arch on their way to a nine point victory in their home conference game.

The Beavers had two players tie for the game high in points with 15: Savannah Kruse (32), who also had the game high in rebounds with 8 and added 2 assists; Lexie Black (15) who added two steals and an assist as well. Callista Francis (42) had a solid performance off the bench in her first home game since her return to the team by having 11 points and being the only player for either team to finish with a positive turnover margin greater than one (+5) by leading all players with 6 steals to a single turnover.

The Beavers will be back in action on Wednesday, January 8th, visiting the Westminster Blue Jays at 5:30 PM CTE.
