The Blackburn Women's Basketball Team lost a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Webster University on Wednesday night.

 

Webster was able to establish an early lead in the first quarter and progressively extend the lead throughout the game, finishing with a final score of 84-46. They out-scored the Beavers in every quarter.

 

For the Beavers, Savannah Kruse led the team offensively. She had eight field goals, and three 3-pointers, as well as a couple of free throws, all tallying up to a team-leading 21 points. Callista Francis followed behind Kruse, featuring ten of her own points. The Beavers were 19-48 on field goals, and three of twelve on 3-pointers. Defensively, Kruse also led the team with eight rebounds. Maria Cline followed closely behind with six. Multiple Beavers had steals throughout the game, however, Francis led the team with two. 

 

Webster was led in points by Hannah Cottrell. She had 15 total points, including six field goals and a 3-pointer. Webster guard Darleana Hunter was close behind with eleven total points. Cottrell also had three steals, all leading to points for Webster. Amaya Baker led in assists with five, while Cottrell had four. Defensively, Hunter led the team with six rebounds. A team effort resulted in the shutdown of the Beaver offense however, as multiple players from Webster tallied steals and blocks. Lauryn Freeman led in steals with five, and Addison Beussink led in blocks with three. 

 

As a result of this game, the Beavers now have an overall record of 4-9, and 2-5 in the SLIAC. Their next matchup will take place on Saturday, January 18th. The Beavers will travel to Greenville, Illinois to take on Greenville University, and the game will start at 1:00 p.m.
