Blackburn Women's Basketball Loses to Iowa Wesleyan

Blackburn Women's Basketball lost a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup to the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers on Wednesday night. Iowa Wesleyan took the game by a final score of 76-66. 

 

Blackburn forward Savannah Kruse set a new personal career high, scoring 27 points. She was ten for 16 on field goals, and two for six on 3-pointers. Following behind her was Kaylee Pedigo, who scored twelve points. She also had an assist. Lexie Black scored nine points, and also three assists. The team was 27-69 on field goals, three for 17 on 3-pointers, and nine for 16 on field goals.

Defensively, the Beavers were led by Savannah Kruse and Maria Cline. Both had nine rebounds, and Cline also had three steals, as well as a block. Following behind them was Kaylee Pedigo, alongside Callista Francis who each tallied eight rebounds. Annika Ochs also contributed to Blackburn's defensive efforts, tallying three of her own steals. Despite a strong defensive effort from the Beavers, Iowa Wesleyan was still able to slip away late in the game with the win.

 

Iowa Wesleyan guards Morgan McCrea and Maddie Williamson led their team offensively. McCrea tallied up 19 total points, however Williamson led the team with 22. McCrea had four assists, while Williamson had two. Allie Masner was not far behind, as she racked up 16 points. The team was 24-56 on field goals, eleven for 32 on 3-pointers, and 17-20 on free throws. 

Defensively, Iowa Wesleyan was able to stop Blackburn's offense late in the game and secure the win. Morgan McCrea led iowa Wesleyan with thirteen total rebounds. She also accounted for one of her team's five steals. Allie Masner was close behind with a total of eight rebounds. Sydney Farrar was responsible for two steals that resulted in points for Iowa Wesleyan. With a smooth running offense and stable defense, Iowa Wesleyan was able to secure the win.

 

As a result of this game, the Beavers now have an overall record of 5-14, and 3-10 in the SLIAC. Their next game will take place on Saturday, February 8th. The Beavers will look to bounce back in a home game against Westminster. The game will be played at Blackburn College, and will start at 1:00 p.m.
