Fight to the End

Fight to the End
After having a rough start to their season on September 2nd, the Blackburn Volleyball team
came back today with a burning drive to win. On September 3rd, they took on Wisconsin Lutheran
and North Central.
The first match, against Wisconsin Lutheran, had a heartbreaking start, with the women
ending the set with a loss of 10-25. This gave more to the fire within them to win and
pushed the women to wake up and get energized. In the second set, the women fought
hard against Wisconsin Lutheran and were able to crank out a win, ending the set
25-20. The third and fourth sets did not go in the women's favor as they lost again, first
18-25, then 17-25.
Despite the loss, the women were able to celebrate when senior Marlee Lindstrom
broke 1,000 for digs in her college career at Blackburn. Marlee has been playing at
Blackburn for three years and will be graduating this year. After the game, Marlee said,
"I am so grateful that my family got to be there for my 1,000th dig and I am truly blessed
to get to play with such an amazing group of girls!" The women were abel to join Marlee
and her family for a small celebration before moving on to the next match.
After sitting and watching their next opponent for a game, the women were sure they'd
be able to crank out a win this time. Boy were they right! During the first set, everything
was flowing beautifully for the women as they were meeting balls and working around
blocks to get the points. The first set ended at 25-17, with the Beavers on top. For the
second set, the women seemed to get a little too confident and started to make lots of
minor mistakes, resulting in a loss, 16-25. After realizing the small things they needed to
change, the women were able to pull back together and fight for the win they so badly
wanted. The last two sets ended with the women winning, 25-20 and then 25-18.
By the end of the tournament, Marlee had her dig number up to 1,020. The next time
the women play will be at Robert Morris College on Tuesday, September 6th at 7 pm.
