This Week in BC Athletics

CARLINVILLE, IL -- This week in Blackburn College athletics sees the men's and women's basketball teams return to the BeaverDome to host Spalding University Thursday night. The teams then head to Westminster College Saturday.

The week begins Thursday with both basketball teams hosting Spalding in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The game will feature a Hawaiian Night theme where all students who come to the game dressed for the Hawaiian Beaches (hawaiian shirt, beach wear, etc.) will receive free Hawaiian Punch. During halftime of the women's game, students will be able to compete to win free Hawaiian Rolls. During halftime of the men's game, all fall sports SLIAC award-winners will be honored and recognized.

The men's and women's teams both suffered tough losses to the Golden Eagles earlier in the season. The women faced a three-point deficit at the half but a slow third quarter proved too much to overcome, falling 73-56 despite the Beavers winning the second and fourth quarters. The men saw 10 players score during the game but were unable to take out the hosts as they fell 64-57.

On Saturday, the teams will continue SLIAC play by visiting Westminster. The women's team saw three players reach double figures in scoring but were unable to slow the team that has reached the past two conference championship games, falling to the Blue Jays 80-53. The men's team captured an 82-75 victory over Westminster earlier in the season, led by five who reached double-digit scoring totals.
