Baseball Suffers Another Close Loss

The Blackburn College Baseball Team fell to 0-7 on the year after falling 4-2 against Loyola University-New Orleans on Tuesday night.

The Beavers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when they plated a run in the top half of the first. Senior pitcher Cody Meyer (Mason City, Iowa) cruised through a hitless four innings to hold maintain the lead. In the Loyola half of the fifth, the Wolfpack got to Meyer for a total of four runs with a Blackburn error and some well-placed hits.

Blackburn cut the lead to 4-2 with a Josh Voigtlander (Rockford, Ill.) RBI fielder's choice in the 8th. The Beavers had chance to add more but some good defense by Loyola shut that plan down.

Aaron Moody (Navarino, Wisc.) led the way with two hits for the Beavers while Jacob Conder (Carterville, Ill.), Matt Mokriakow, and Vinnie Birk (Swansea, Ill.) each added a hit. Out of the Blackburn bullpen, Tyler Gosnell (DeKalb, Ill.), Tim Hillis (Williamsville, Mo.), and Caleb Schupbach (Rockford, Ill.) each pitched scoreless innings.

Another game agsint Loyola is on tap for tomorrow night with first pitch slated for 6:00 PM. The game can be watched live on Loyola's website.
