Moody hits walk-off as baseball sweeps MacMurray

After taking the first game of the series in an 11 inning showdown the day before, the Beavers took the field on Sunday unaware of the drama that would ensue.

Game One

MacMurray struck first in the top of the first inning after an RBI single by Aaron Krummrich.  Blackburn would tie the game up in the bottom of the second when Josh Voightlander led the inning off with a double.  Cody Flowers bunted for a hit which allowed Voightlander to score on throwing error by the pitcher.

However Mac took the lead again the following inning.  In the top of the fourth, the Highlanders extended their lead after a three-run inning.  The Beavers chipped away in the bottom of the fifth when Donny Fuhrhop started the rally with a single followed by back-to-back doubles by Matt Mokriakow and Jon Lowry. 

Aaron Moody started the rally again in the sixth with a double then advanced to third on a balk by the MacMurray pitcher.  Moody then scored on a sac-fly after Vinnie Birk flew out to the warning track.  After Mac scored a run in the top of the seventh, the Beavers went to work in the final half-inning down 6-4.

Matt Mokriakow and Jon Lowry sparked the rally with back-to-back singles.  Cody Flowers was hit by the pitch to load up the bases with one out.  Jose Osorio then drew a walk to narrow the deficit to one.  Then, for the second day in a row Aaron Moody came through with a 2 RBI single to win the game.

Moody was the leading hitter for Blackburn after a stellar 3-4 2 RBI performance.  Joining Moody was Matt Mokriakow who also went 3-4.  Jon Lowry and Donny Fuhrhop also added two hits apiece.  Cody Meyer picked up the win after pitching two innings of relief giving up no earned runs.

Game Two

In the series finale, the Beavers took the field looking for the three game sweep of the Highlanders.  It was a hit parade in the second game of the double header; Blackburn tallied 17 hits in the affair.  The flood gates opened in the bottom of the third when the Beavers exploded for seven runs on six hits.

The first eight hitters of the inning reached base.  Matt Mokriakow and Cody Flowers each had an RBI single while Aaron Moody, Doug Matas, and Jose Osorio had RBI doubles of their own.  The Beavers continued their offensive attack for six more runs allowing them to win the game 15-4 after seven innings.

Wrapping up an outstanding weekend at the plate, Aaron Moody had his fourth three-hit game of the season after a 3-4 5 RBI day at the dish.   Also having another great day was Matt Morkiakow going 3-3 with 3 RBI’s.  Cody Flowers, Doug Matas, Jon Lowry, and Donny Fuhrhop all had two hits as well.

Tim Hillis picked up the win on the mound after six innings of three-hit baseball, surrendering one unearned run.

This puts the Beavers at 5-18, and 4-8 in the SLIAC.  On Wednesday, Eureka College comes to Carlinville for a double header.  First pitch scheduled for 2:00 pm.
