Beavers Sweep Lincoln Christian in Doubleheader

The Blackburn College Baseball team improved their record to 4-4 with two wins over Lincoln Christian on Tuesday afternoon in Carlinville.

The Beavers had trouble getting the bats going in game one. Lincoln Christian found themselves with a 1-0 lead early, but Brock Hill (Woodlawn, Ill.) hit his second home run in as many games to knot up the scoring. With Blackburn trailing 2-1 in the 5th, freshman Shane Lewis (Middleburg, Flo.) drove home Jared Jones (Mitchell, Ind.) to tie up the game again.

In the bottom half of the seventh, Aaron Moody (Navarino, Wis.) was up with the bases loaded and one out. He won the game in a very unconventional way with a walkoff hit by pitch to end the game with a score of 3-2. It marked Moody's fifth bit by pitch this season.

Lewis and Jones had two hits each for Blackburn.

A pair of Tylers allowed just three total hits on the mound for Blackburn. Tyler Durand (Mt. Zion, Ill.) started the game and went three innings surrendering two earned runs while striking out five. Tyler Gosnell (DeKalb, Ill.) earned the win in relief with four scoreless innings.

In game two, the Beaver pitchers were even better. They notched a shutout and allowed just five Lincoln Christian hits. Tim Hillis (Williamsville, Mo.) earned his first win of the year with four scoreless innings and four strikeouts. Dillon Hensley (Bedford, Ind.) and Jarrett Luckett (Louisville, Ky.) calso threw up zeros to help with a 6-0 Blackburn win.

Lewis had two more hits and a RBI while Tylor Klipfel (Saugus, Cali.) and Joey Szerletich (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) had two hits of their own.

The Beavers will look to continue their recent success as they enter a busy weekend. Conference play opens up as Westminster College comes to Blackburn for a double dip this Fridat starting at noon. Monmouth and Chicago will each be in town on Saturday for another two games while on Sunday the Beavers will be on the road to play Monmouth again.
