Baseball Announces 2018 Award Winners

The Blackburn College Baseball Program has announced their individual award winners for 2018.  Senior Tyler Durand was named Most Valuable Player by a vote from his teammates.  Durand has been named Most Valuable Player in back to back seasons.  Junior infielder Dalton Fisher was named Most Improved Player and Freshman Outfielder Steven Diaz was named the team's top newcomer.

Durand led the Beavers in hitting with a .336 average which is very impressive since he began the year just 3 for 24.  Durand also led the team in hits, doubles and runs batted in.  On the mound, Durand won two games including a complete game nine-inning victory at Spalding.  "I cannot say enough good things about Tyler Durand," said Blackburn Head Coach Mike Neal.  "Tyler was a coaches' dream, a fantastic teammate, and tremendous representative of the baseball program," added Neal.

Fisher, a converted catcher, ended up the year at third base for the Beavers. "Fish struggled in his first start at 3rd base early in the year, but kept coming to practice all year working on getting better and finished the year by making some outstanding defensive plays," said Neal.

Diaz was second on the team in hitting with a .316 average and second on the team in hits with 43.  "Steven had a great freshman year for us," said Neal.  "Steven adjusted well to the college game, as he gets stronger we will be fortunate to have one of the best outfielders in the conference on our team," added Neal.
