Beavers and Tigers Split Another Doubleheader

Beavers and Tigers Split Another Doubleheader

Blackburn College and Iowa Wesleyan University split a doubleheader for the consecutive days on Friday in Carlinville, Illinois.  Iowa Wesleyan took advantage of Blackburn's bad defense and rolled to a 14-1 first game victory.  The Beavers bounced back in the nitecap with a 11-7 victory.

In the opener Iowa Wesleyan starter Luis Ayesa had a perfect game through five innings while the Tigers piled on runs, scoring nine runs in the first four innings.  Blackburn finally got on the board in the 7th with an RBI single by Mitchell Binder.

In the nitecap the Beavers bats woke up as the 2-3-4 hitters, Jaidon Erivez, Tyler Jackson and Adam Holm combined for nine hits and Ryan Lopez added two more for 11 of the Beavers 13 hits.  Tyler's Jackson's two-run homerun gave the Beavers a 6-5 lead.  Blackburn starter Hayden Sheehan grinded through four innings before Kolton Beckett entered and went the final five innings to gain his first collegiate victory.  Beckett had a strong weekend for Blackburn as he notched the save in the first game of the series and added the win in the final game.

Blackburn is now 4-12 on the season. Iowa Wesleyan is 3-5.

"We are having a hard time to develop consistency over a whole series," said Blackburn Coach Mike Neal.  "We show periods of good baseball and then we show times that get ugly.  With our young team it's just a battle to try and learn and improve each time out," added Neal.

Blackburn will host Eureka College next weekend for four more St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games.
