Baseball Falls in Season Opener

PLEASANT PLAINS, IL -- The Blackburn College Baseball team opened the 2024 season by hosting Loras College on a neutral field at Pleasant Plains High School and despite three runs in the seventh inning, the Beavers were unable to come away with victory, falling 12-4 in the opener. 

 Andrew Lozano, Zach Knox, and Gehrig Loera led the way with two hits each. Dominic Medrano and Lozano both hit home runs with while Knox had a double. Medrano also posted two runs batted in with Lozano and Knox both adding one.

In the bottom of the second inning and down 3-0,  Andrew Garza singled to centerfield. He then advanced to first off a single from Lozano. Knox then doubled to centerfield which allowed Garza to score the first run of the season and narrow the deficit to 3-1.

Loras was able to rally and took a 10-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but the Beavers managed to close the gap. Lozano opened the inning with his first home run of the season. Knox then singled before Medrano knocked his first homer of the year and made the score 10-4. Unfortunately, BC was unable to get any closer while Loras added two more runs to take a 12-4 victory. 

Blackburn will return to action Saturday to take on St. Norbert College in a game played at Pleasant Plains.
