Blackburn Visits Webster for SLIAC Action

WEBSTER GROVE, MO – Blackburn College Baseball visited Webster University Tuesday afternoon for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader but ended up falling to the Gorloks 19-2 and 15-5.

In the third inning, Jason Hedges singled to start the inning. He advanced to second on a groundout by Harley Carney and got to third off a Brett Lander single. C.J. Brunaugh came up and hit into a fielder's choice that saw Lander get thrown out at second but allowed Hedges to give Blackburn their first run of the inning.

The Beavers added another run in the fourth. Isaac Gleaves opened the inning with a single. After an out, Dominic Medrano and Ian Sullivan both singled as well. With bases loaded, Hedges walked to score Gleaves.

However, it would be all the Blackburn offense was able to put together as they fell 19-2.

The nightcap saw Blackburn face an early deficit as they entered the second inning. Zach Knox reached first with a single and got to second on a wild pitch. Medrano followed with a double which scored Knox before Diego Perez singled to allow Medrano to score and give BC two runs. After Gehrig Loera walked to put Perez on second, Hedges hit into a fielder's choice that put Loera out at second but allowed Perez to score. Webster was able to answer with two runs in their inning and added more runs in the third and fourth inning to take a 9-3 lead into the fifth inning.

Carney got the inning started with a walk, then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After a fly out, Brunaugh hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Carney. Gleaves followed with his eighth home run of the season to give Blackburn two runs in the inning.

Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Webster would eventually take a 15-5 win.

The Beavers will return to action Saturday as they host Fontbonne University in another SLIAC doubleheader.
