Baseball Falls in Heartbreak

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN -- Blackburn College Baseball visited Wabash College Sunday for a nonconference matchup but ended up falling in a heartbreaker as the Little Giants scored in the ninth inning to take a 5-4 win.

Freshman Diego Perez led the way with three runs batted in and tied with freshman Gehrig Loera, junior C.J. Brunaugh, and sophomore Cody Moore with two hits each. Freshman Chris Frede led the pitchers with three strikeouts.

Wabash got an early lead with a run in the first inning but Blackburn answered in the fourth with two runs. Junior Andrew Lozano got on with a bunt then got to third off a single from senior Zach Knox. Perez knocked in Lozano with a double to put the Beavers on the board and also put Knox on third. Junior Frankie Ruiz followed with a single which scored Knox and put BC ahead 2-1.

The hosts responded with three runs in the seventh inning before Blackburn tied it in the eighth when Perez singled up the middle to score Lozano and sophomore Harley Carney. Unfortunately, Wabash was able to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to win 5-4.

Blackburn will now visit NCAA Division I foe Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Wednesday. They return to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday when they host Lyon College.
