Blue Jays Topple Beavers

It was a struggle on the court for the Blackburn College Men’s Basketball Team on Saturday evening when they battled St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Westminster College.  Westminster controlled nearly every aspect of the game as they toppled the Beavers 67-52.  Blackburn fell behind early but just couldn’t spark a rally to reel in the Blue Jays.

Westminster prevented any sort of comeback, despite the Beaver's best efforts.  The deficit was narrowed to as close as nine points late in the second half, yet the Blue Jays led by Verdis Lee Jr. would put the game out of reach.

Westminster dominated the boards, outrebounding Blackburn 31-26 while also shooting 80 percent from the free throw line (8-10).  Colin Gowin led the Beavers in scoring with eleven points which was three points shy of his career high 14 against Rockford earlier this season.  Tommy Ulinski and Jamie Moore also had ten points apiece.

Blackburn posts a record of 1-17 (1-10 SLIAC) and will continue their current six-game home stand on Wednesday February 5th against MacMurray College.
