Men's Hoops Second Half Explosion Not Enough

Men's Hoops Second Half Explosion Not Enough

After a disappointing first half, the Blackburn College Men’s Basketball Team found themselves down 39-23 at halftime to the Fontbonne University Griffins.  Fontbonne had built their extensive lead in part to the hot hand of Garrett McDowell who went 5-5 from downtown, including a buzzer-beater 3-pointer to end the half.

The Beavers turned up the intensity in the second half forcing Fontbonne to turn the ball over 19 times on the game.  Chris Davis and Jamie Moore each had five steals apiece.  With time winding down in the second half, the Beavers ran their offense and found Tommy Ulinski in the corner to hit a clutch 3-pointer to bring the score 74-73.  Blackburn then fouled to send Fontbonne’s Richard Dorhauer to the free-throw line with 18 seconds left.  Dorhauer missed the first but made his second to put the score at 75-73.  With enough time for one more shot, Colin Gowin attempted to end the game with a 3-pointer.  The shot missed but Chris Davis snatched the rebound and was fouled on his shot attempt, sending him to the line with .2 seconds left in regulation.  Davis, however, would miss both free throws thus ending the game.

For Blackburn, Jamie Moore led the team with 16 points, 5 steals, and 8 rebounds.  Tommy Ulinski added 14 points while Gowin added 11.

The loss against Fontbonne marked the final home game on the season for Blackburn.  Now with a record of 1-21, the team will travel to Iowa-Wesleyan on Saturday.
