Beavers fall to Highlanders

The gym was packed, the team was fresh, and the Beavers were in prime position to earn their first win on the young season.  St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival MacMurray College was in town on Wednesday evening.  It was a close contest from the tip off but the Beavers could not control the lead.  MacMurray went on an 11-2 run to establish a small deficit but it would not hold.  The Beavers began to rally back with a 13-0 run, highlighted by a monster alley oop by Chris A. Davis that shook the entire state of Illinois.  The lead changed several times before MacMurray emerged ahead 28-26 at halftime

In the second half the Highlanders made the decision to go to their big man Clayton Whitlock.  Whitlock took over the game scoring 13 of MacMurray’s first points of the half.  The Beavers could not find an answer for the 6’8 center, which would be the deciding factor.  After a 15-4 run to begin the second half, MacMurray was in cruise control, still feeding their center Whitlock.  Blackburn was unable to pull off another rally and eventually was defeated 87-69.

The Beavers were led by Chris J. Davis who had 21 points, two steals, and one huge block.  Chris A. Davis added 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
