Blackburn Falls to Webster on Senior Night

The Blackburn Men's Basketball Team falls to Webster University by the score of 68-59 on senior night in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference matchup.



Blackburn started off the game slow once again in this conference matchup as Webster would get off to an early 12-3 lead in the first three minutes of the game. The Gorloks would be in total control of the entire first half as they would haul down nine offensive rebounds. Blackburn would start to fight back into the game when Chanz Aldridge would put in a fast break layup to cut the lead to 11. Webster would take back control late as they would hold a 17 point lead with two minutes remaining in the half. The Beavers would end the half on 4-0 run after free throws from Jarrius Burnett to head to the locker room trailing 41-28. The Beavers would shoot 31% from the floor and 23% from beyond the arc in the first half. 




The two teams would pick up the defensive intensity to start the second half. There would only be a combined seven points in the first seven minutes of the second half. The Beavers would keep it around a 10 points game for most of the second half not being able to get back in the game. The Gorloks would continue to frustrate the Beavers by grabbing nine more offensive rebounds in the second half with 13 second chance points. Blackburn could never find their way into the game and would fall to Webster by the score of 68-59. 

 

The leading scorer for the Beavers was Izayah Talmadge and Burnett who both scored 14. Burnett would also be the leading rebounder for the Beavers with 8. Webster forward Karl Moore would lead the game with a dominating 18 rebounds and 5 offensive rebounds. Blackburn would end up shooting 31% from the floor and 20% from the three.

 

The Beavers fall to 8-17 overall and 7-7 in conference. Their next game will be in the conference tournament with the opponent still to be determined. 



Blackburn would honor their two seniors, Bryson Kirby and Javon Stovall, before the game today. Both of these players have had excellent careers including a SLIAC Conference championship. 



Kirby has started in 79 of 111 games, totaling 2,760 minutes. He has scored 730 points with 203 made 3's. Kirby's career 3 point percentage is 37.5%, making him one of the top shooters in Blackburn College history. As a sophomore Bryson was 4th in the county in 3 point percentage and has been the top in the SLIAC his entire career.



Stovall has started in 40 of 60 games played, totaling 1543 minutes. He has scored 751 points while at Blackburn. His career field goal percentage is 52.1%. He has 289 rebounds and 64 steals.
