Ice Cold Beavers Drop Conference Game to Eureka

The Blackburn College Men’s Basketball Team was defeated by the Eureka College Red Devils by the score of 76-66 in a key St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference matchup on Tuesday night in Carlinville.

The first half was a very close and highly competitive half. Eureka would get the scoring started early as they would hit two threes to go up 6-0 in the first two minutes. Blackburn would then flip the script and go on a 7-0 run themselves to give the Beavers their first lead of the game at the 12-minute mark of 12-11. The two powerhouses of the conference would continue to go back and forth the rest of the half as there were seven lead changes. Blackburn would end the half strong and head to the locker room with a 33-32 lead. The Beavers would shoot 38% from the field and 26% from three in the first half. Chanz Aldridge would lead the team with 11 points at the break.

The second half is where the Red Devils would begin to take over. After trailing by one at the break, Eureka would get scorching hot from three and go on a 19-5 run to begin the half. This would put the Beavers in a 14 point hole with 12 minutes on the clock. Guard Ian Milsteadt would continue to kill the Beavers as he would hit a deep three to increase the Eureka lead to 21 with six minutes left. The Beavers did not quit as they would continue to play hard and fight their way back into the game. After a last-second layup by Senior Bryson Kirby, the game would end with the score of 76-66 in favor of the Red Devils.  The killer statistic was that Blackburn started the second half 0 for 15 from behind the three-point line.

The leading scorer for the Beavers was Chanz Aldridge who had 20 points and four threes. Eliot Harison would add another impressive game leading Blackburn with 10 rebounds. Blackburn would only shoot 34% from the field and 21% from beyond the arc. Eureka would shoot 42% from three.

Blackburn falls to 7-13 overall and 6-3 in conference. The Beavers will head to Principia on February 5th for their next game.
