Beavers Struggles Continue In Home Loss to Fontbonne

Blackburn College hosted Fontbonne University on Wednesday evening for a game that carried significant playoff implications for the Beavers. The Beavers unfortunately lost to the Griffins by a final score of 85-73.

1st Half: The Beavers struggled during the first half. Some of the best shooters on the team fell cold, and Blackburn was having a difficult time getting shots to fall through the net. The Beavers shot just 11-31 on field goals during the first half, while the Griffins shot 20-30. The Beavers outshot the Griffins on three-pointers however. Blackburn was 4-12 on threes during the first half while Fontbonne was just 3-6.

The Beavers were unable to match the Griffins on fast break points. 20 points were scored by the Griffins straight from fast breaks, while the Beavers had no points from fast breaks. The Griffins were leading the Beavers 47-29 at halftime.

2nd Half: The Beavers opened up the second half with a few quick shots, but the Griffins wanted to hold their lead, and they did. Despite the Beavers going on an 8-0 scoring run courtesy of forced turnovers, the Griffins were able to outlast the Beavers attempted comeback through the second half. Even though the Beavers outscored the Griffins 44-38 in the second half, the Griffins had jumped out to too far of a lead.

Chanz Aldridge had a couple of clutch threes during the half, as well as Cameron Johnson and Cayden Paquette. Aldridge finished 9-21 on field goals, and 4-14 on threes. Johnson was 3-6 on field goals, while Paquette was a solid 4-7 on field goals and 2-5 from behind the arc.

Blackburn shot 26-63 on field goals, and 9-30 on threes. They were 12-14 on free throws, and forced 27 turnovers from Fontbonne.

The Beavers are back in action on Saturday against Greenville. Greenville will host Blackburn with tip off set for 3:00 p.m.
