Beavers Defeated By Millikin in Last Home Game of 2022

Blackburn basketball lost against Millikin University on Tuesday evening. The Big Blue of Millikin University won by a final score of 85-75.

 

1st Half: The Beavers were off to a slow start, as was Millikin. After the Beavers took a 2-0 lead just twelve seconds into the game, Millikin turned around and tied the game up. Then, JT Welch took the game into his own hands. He drained three consecutive three pointers early in the half, giving the Big Blue a comfortable lead. After a half that was dominated by Millikin, and multiple missed scoring opportunities, the Beavers found themselves down 46-35 at halftime.

 

Halftime: Blackburn College was pleased to host a halftime event for the 6th Grade Carlinville Cavaliers basketball team. The 6th grade team played an eight-minute intersquad scrimmage during halftime. Blackburn College thanks the Carlinville 6th grade team for their participation today!

 

2nd Half: The Beavers outscored the Big Blue in the second half, but still came up short. JT Welch continued to score three-pointers through the second half for Millikin, continuing to hold them with a comfortable lead. Along with Welch was the Big Blue’s center, Cole Lawrence, who was holding the lead for Millikin. He scored a handful of points in the second half, with some layups coming at clutch moments in the game. With the clock winding down late in the half, a foul was called on the Beavers that essentially secured the game for Millikin. The Big Blue ran away with the game on free throws with under 30 seconds left.

 

Chanz Aldridge stood out for the Beavers, scoring 26 points in the game. Following behind him was Izayah Talmadge, who finished with 15. Troy Cole Jr. scored eight, while Cameron Johnson assisted with six points of his own. The Beavers shot 25-57 from the field, 6-23 on three-pointers, and 19-27 on free throws.

 

JT Welch scored 27 points for Millikin. He was 8-11 on field goals, with each one being a three-pointer. He was also a perfect 3-3 on free throws. Drake Stevenson scored 15 points, while Demarcus Bond added eleven of his own for the Big Blue. Millikin shot 29-57 on field goals, 11-28 on three-pointers, and 16-23 on free throws.

 

Blackburn moves to an overall record of 3-4. Their next matchup will take place on Saturday, December 10th. The Beavers will visit Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, to face off against the Eagles. Tip off for the game is set for 3:00 p.m.
