Blackburn Golf finishes 18th in Midwest Classic

On September 16th, the Blackburn Men's Golf team competed in the Midwest Classic in Galena, IL.  At Eagle Ridge resort in Galena, there are three golf courses, the South Course, the North Course, and The General.  Of the three courses, the Beavers played the North Course for both days of the tournament.  The North course is said to be the second hardest course on the property according to several members of the Resort.  "The North Course is unlike any course I've ever played.  Some courses we play you can get into trouble every couple of holes, here at Eagle Ridge North there is trouble on every hole." Said Junior Anthony Harper.  The greens were rolling on close to a fourteen on the stimpmeter.  In order to understand how fast that is one could compare them to pro level speed on the greens.

With the challenge of the course, Freshmen Wiatt Jennings didn't shy away from the challenge.  Using a safe play strategy, Jennings escaped his way through the North Course to shoot an opening round 76.  Other Blackburn scores after the first day were Kyle Kesinger shooting an 80, followed by Senior Jordan McMillen's 82.  Rounding out the scoring for Blackburn was Senior Trenton Easley who shot an 85, to give the Beavers a team score of 323.

Heading into the second day Blackburn found themselves in the middle of the 35 team field at 18th place.  However the second day the Beavers struggled to find their swing as they shot a team score of 332.  Jennings shot a second round 80 and McMillen was just behind him with an 81.  The next score taken was Junior Anthony Harper's 83.  Rounding out the second day team score was Trenton Easley with an 88.  Jennings finished the tournament T-17.  Blackburn as a team finished 18th as a team for the tournament.

Blackburn Golf looks to bounce back on Wednesday, October 4th in Ft. Madison, IA, to compete in the Iowa Wesleyan Invitational.
