Men's Soccer Loses Tough Battle to Spalding

The Blackburn College soccer team lost to the Spalding University Golden Eagles by the score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Carlinville.

Today's game was senior day for five Blackburn players: Zac Ruyle, Jerry Barringer, Brock Eddings, Prince Koroma, and Sahr Kanjama.

Spalding opened up the scoring late in the first half to send the Golden Eagles into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Josh Kutzke knotted it up at one fifteen minutes after the second half had bugun. Prince Koroma passed it to Kutzke, and after momentarily playing with the ball, he shot the ball just under the hands of the Spalding goalkeeper.

Spalding regained the lead for good a couple minutes later. After that game winning goal in the 61st minute, things got rough. Blackburn was attempting to score another goal to tie up the game while Spalding was trying to preserve the lead. Through all that tension and intensity came some rough play. Six cards were given out by the refereee, including a red card on both sides.

The Beavers will go to Westminster tomorrow afternoon to conclude the season. They will play the rain postponed October 13th game.
