Beavers Close In Late But Unable to Catch HIghlanders

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team scored on a penalty kick with seven minutes remaining to cut their match to a goal but was unable to muster another and fell 2-1 to MacMurray College in St. Louis Intercollegiate Men's Soccer action on Wednesday in Carlinville.

The Highlanders led 2-0 with a goal in each half before a foul in the box at 83:11 gave freshman Dylan Klunk a penalty kick which he drilled past the right of the MacMurray goalkeeper.  Blackburn had one or two decent scoring opportunites late but was unable to find the back of the goal.  MacMurray scored early at 14:36 on a Mauricio Flores goal from an assist by Oswald Hountondji.  The Highlanders added a goal at 64:19.

For the match, MacMurray out-shot Blackburn 29-9 and 9-1 on corner kicks.

Blackburn goalkeeper Chase Fiedler had 17 saves including one on a penalty kick.

Blackburn is now 2-6-1 overall and 0-2 in SLIAC play, while MacMurray is now 3-7, 1-1.
