Men’s Soccer takes loss against Asbury University

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team took a defeat against the Asbury University Eagles by a 3-0 score on a Monday afternoon in Carlinville. The Beavers fall to 1-7-2 on the season (0-2 in the SLIAC).

The match started slowly as both the Beavers and the Eagles went to halftime tied up with the score, Asbury University did create multiple chances to take the lead as they took 11 shots in that half compared to Blackburn, who only had 1 shot at goal. Yet, Blackburn Goalkeeper Dawson Klunk did a great job preventing the Eagles from scoring as he had 5 saves to end the 1st half.

In the second half, the Eagles kept on creating opportunities offensively and inevitably began to score. At the 53:47 mark of the match, Asbury’s Austin Dunlap scored from a great assist given by teammate Pascal Muller. The Eagles then increased their lead to 2-0, when at the 64th minute, Luke Thomas scored again from a cross by Nick Clark. Then after three minutes, Asbury’s Dalton Fleshwood struck the ball into the far left post to score a great goal to lead the game to its final score, 3-0.

The Beavers ended the match with 2 shots at goal, while the Eagles had 24 shots at goal. Goalkeeper Dawson Klunk ended the game with 10 saves that kept Blackburn competitive for most of the game, while his counterpart Asbury’s Peyton French only had 1 save.

Blackburn will try to bounce back as they go on to play on Saturday, October 7th against SLIAC conference opponent, Greenville University. The start time for that game is at 1:00 p.m.
